In the molecular structure, the hydroxyl group (—OH) is located on the third carbon atom of the carbon chain, and it is a secondary alcohol. Its molecular weight is 130.23. It is a colorless and transparent liquid at room temperature with a faint grease smell. Its boiling point is about 174-176 °C, and its density is lower than that of water (about 0.82 g/cm³).
