Its molecular structure contains a benzene ring connected to an isopropyl group (-CH (CH₃)₂), so it is also called cumene. It appears as a colorless, transparent liquid with a boiling point of about 152°C. It is insoluble in water, but easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. It is flammable, and its vapor can form an explosive mixture when mixed with air.
From a chemical point of view, the benzene ring of Cumene can undergo electrophilic substitution reactions such as halogenation, nitration, and sulfonation, and the isopropyl side chain can undergo oxidation reactions under the action of oxidants.
