(E)-2-Decenal, also known as trans-2-decenal, is an unsaturated fatty aldehyde organic compound with a molecular formula of C₁₀H₁₈O (molecular weight 154.25). Its structural feature is that the second and third carbon atoms of the decane carbon chain form a trans-configuration (E-form) double bond, and the aldehyde group (-CHO) is located on the second carbon atom at the end of the double bond. This trans-decenal structure gives it specific chemical activity and spatial configuration, which is the key to distinguishing it from cis isomers and other positional isomers.
In terms of physical properties, (E)-2-decenal usually appears as a light yellow to yellow liquid with a boiling point of 229°C (normal pressure) or 78–80°C (3 mmHg reduced pressure conditions), a density of about 0.841 g/mL (25°C), and a flash point of 205 °F. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in ethanol, most non-volatile oils and organic solvents (such as chloroform and ethyl acetate).
