It is a colorless to light yellow liquid with elegant floral or fruity smell, boiling point of about 154-156°C, density of 0.923 g/mL (25°C), slightly soluble in water, but easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and benzene.
Ethyl Tiglate belongs to unsaturated esters, contains trans double bonds in its chemical structure, has a refractive index of about 1.434-1.435 (20°C), a flash point of 44-112°F (different test methods), is stable at room temperature, but needs to be kept away from strong oxidants and strong bases. Its synthesis is usually prepared by esterification of tiglic acid and ethanol under the catalysis of concentrated sulfuric acid.
