The g position (4th carbon) is where the ester bond closes the ring, giving it a coconut-milk scent. Gamma Heptalactone at room temperature is a colorless or light yellow liquid with a boiling-point of approximately 230degC. It is only slightly soluble, but readily soluble, in water and organic solvents like ethanol or oils. Its chemical properties are stable but an open-ring hydrolysis can occur in strong acid/alkaline environments. It has a low threshold for aromas, including coconut milk, caramel sweetness, and a slight woody note. It is widely used as a flavoring agent in daily chemical and food flavors.

Gamma Heptanolide, in addition to its use as a flavoring agent, is an important organic chemical material and fine chemical intermediary. It is a solvent with a high boiling point, excellent electrical properties, good solubility, high stability, nontoxic, and safe to use. It is used in many fields, including petrochemicals.
The additive is an unsaturated carbonate containing a benzene ring, such as phenyl vinylene carbonate; the second additive is a cyclic carboxylic acid ester, such as propyl butyrolactone, propyl valerolactone, propyl caprolactone, etc. An unsaturated carbonate with a benzene-ring is used as the additive, for example, phenyl vinylene. The second additive, a carboxylic acid ester, is used as the second additive. ; the third additive is a piperidone, such as 1-methyl-2-piperidone, 1-ethyl-2-piperidone. The mass ratio between the additive and the second additive (1.21.5:1) is 0.080.1 to 1; and for the third additive, the ratio is 0.080.1 to 1. The lithium ion electrolyte produced by this method improves the cycle stability and battery performance of positive electrode active materials containing nickel.
