Octanol usually refers to n-octanol, which is an organic compound of fatty alcohols with the chemical formula C₈H₁₈O. It is a colorless and transparent liquid at room temperature with a mild aromatic smell. Its boiling point is about 195℃. It is slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Its molecular structure is a straight-chain saturated monohydric alcohol with a hydroxyl group connected to one end of the carbon chain. This structure makes it have the chemical properties of alcohols, such as esterification, oxidation and dehydration reactions.
