Basic Info

The Petitgrain Oil is obtained from young leaves and branches of Rutaceae plants, which are a part of the Rutaceae Family. Aromatherapy and natural scents have gained widespread attention. The liquid is light yellow to amber with a smooth and light texture. The scent of this liquid is unique and complex. It has a subtle sweetness that is similar to orange flower. The astringency and green color of the leaves are mixed together. The aroma is mild, pleasant and leaves a long-lasting aftertaste.

Petitgrain Oil has a rich chemical composition. Linalool, its main active ingredient, accounts for 30-60% of its total weight. It also contains a variety of terpenes, ester compounds, such as linalool-acetate, geraniol and turpentine, that together determine the chemical properties and aroma profile. Steam distillation is the most common and traditional method of extraction. Freshly picked orange leaves or tender branches are washed, chopped and placed in a device for distillation. The volatile components are then released with high-temperature steam. Orange leaf oil can be obtained after condensation and oil-water seperation. Its natural aroma and active components are preserved to the maximum extent.

Dimethyl Disulfide

1. Aromatherapy for Mood Management
The refreshing aroma of the oil has a calming effect. The olfactory system activates linalool’s main ingredient in the limbic system of the brain, which effectively relieves symptoms such as anxiety, stress and insomnia. Its antioxidant activity (DPPH scavenging free radicals at a rate of 78%) was found to be higher than citrus peel and neroli oils, reducing oxidative damage to the nervous systems. Diffusing 3-4 drops neroli oil with chamomile oil can create a relaxing atmosphere that improves sleep. Massage (applying 1-2 drops of diluted neroli oil to the temples and along the spine) can help relieve joint pain and muscle tension. This is especially helpful for rheumatoid arthritis. Aromatherapy is also used to treat low moods and seasonal affective disorders by using its antidepressant qualities, which are achieved by regulating the serotonin level.

2. Cosmetics and skin care
Petitgrain Oil is a great choice for sensitive and oily skin because of its dual action properties. Geraniol and other terpenes in the oil inhibit 5a reductase, which reduces excessive oil production. It prevents acne through its mild antibacterial qualities (inhibiting Propionibacterium acnes by 62%). Applications include:

Oil-Control Acne essence: Combine 3 drops orange leaf oil with 2 drops tea tree oil into 10ml jojoba. Topical application of the oil can help reduce acne breakouts by reducing swelling and redness.

Toning Toner: Add orange leaf oil to a spray container after diluting it. Spray after cleansing the skin to tighten pores, and reduce oiliness around the T-zone. After a month of use, you will notice a smoother skin.

Anti-Sensitive Cream: This cream is suitable for sensitive skin. It has a low irritation rate (0.3% for skin sensitization) and an anti-inflammatory effect (inhibits IL-6 inflammatory factor release).

The oil can also be used to treat dandruff in hair products by regulating the scalp oil balance.

3. Food and beverage Flavoring
Petitgrain oil is a natural flavoring that can be used in the food industry after undergoing a rigorous safety assessment (ADI value 0-5mg/kg of body weight). The oil’s subtle woody notes and refreshing citrus notes make it a perfect choice for baked goods and beverages.

Beverage Flavoring : By adding 0.01% to 0.03% of petitgrain seed oil to tea, you can add a “green leaf” taste and depth.

Baking Applications: By adding 0.02% petitgrain oil in bread dough, you can reduce the sweetness. Its antioxidants (such linalool), can also extend the shelf-life of the product for 2-3 days.

Sauces and Hard Candies: Petitgrain oil, combined with essential oils like lemon and mint, can create a unique flavor called “herbal citron” that will satisfy the demand of consumers for natural flavors.

4. Medical and Healthcare
It is excellent for wound care because it has a broad antimicrobial spectrum that includes Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia Coli (minimum inhibiting concentration (MIC), 0.125-0.5ml/ml). It has been shown in experiments that the oil accelerates wound healing by up to 20% when compared to control groups. This is due to its ability of stimulating fibroblasts and collagen synthesis. Citrus oil reduces joint inflammation and pain in rheumatoid patients by dilation of blood vessels (reducing resistance by 15%) as well as inhibiting prostaglandin syntheses. The effectiveness of citrus oil is increased when it’s combined with massage. Its antidepressant effects (via the regulation of monoamine neurons) and memory-enhancing properties (by increasing acetylcholine in the hippocampus 12%) also make it an adjunct treatment for mild cognitive impairment and anxiety.

5. Industrial and Environmental Applications
The natural antimicrobial properties of petitgrain oil make it a great alternative to cleaning agents that are chemically synthesized. Mandarin oil added to eco-friendly cleaning products at 0.5% to 1% inhibits the growth of bacteria on surfaces, e.g. kills >99% E. coli. It also imparts a pleasant scent. Biodegradability (half life 30days) and low toxicity levels (LD50 >5g/kg for rats) are both EU Ecolabel-certified, which makes it ideal for cleaning household and food processing equipment. A natural insecticide made with neem and petitgrain oils repels 85% of fruit flies and aphids, making it ideal for organic farming. Mandarin oil is a cologne classic that gives fragrances such as Chanel No. With its herbal notes, Chanel No. 5 is a refreshing fragrance.
