The chemical name of phenethyl resorcinol is 4- (1-phenylethyl) -1,3-benzenediol, also known as SymWhite377 or simply 377.
Phenylethyl Resorcinol is an effective whitening ingredient with strong antioxidant properties, which strongly inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and reduces the production of melanin. Skin tests have shown that under non exposure to light conditions, a 0.5% concentration of 377 is more effective than a 1% concentration of quercetin. In 2012, the China Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) approved Phenylethyl Resorcinol as a cosmetic ingredient for use in cosmetics.
