Phenylpropionaldehyde, English name Phenylpropionaldehyde, is a colorless, transparent or light yellow liquid at room temperature and pressure. It is a green and sweet smell, similar to that of storax, hyacinth and rabbit ear aldehyde. However, it has a spicy, warm and sweet scent, similar to cinnamon, with a long-lasting fragrance. It is soluble with water and many organic solvents, such as dichloromethane, chloroform and ethyl-acetate. Phenylpropionaldehyde belongs to aldehyde organic compounds and can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry. Most commonly, it is used to modify drug molecules and produce spices and flavors.
Add 70ml (W/W), 10% sodium metabisulfite, to a 100ml flask fitted with a scale. The contents should be heated to 50-60 degrees on a hot water bath. Shake the flask vigorously 15 minutes. Allow it to stand. Add the sodium metabisulfite to the liquid layers when they are separated. The oil layer separated must not exceed 0.5ml. It can also be determined using the non-polar columns method (GT-10-4).
