The methyl-free plant sterols are mostly b-sitosterol stigmasterol campesterol rapeseed and rapeseed. The structure of phytol resembles that of animal alcohol. The only differences are the number of methyl group connected to the position c-4 and the difference between the side chains at the position c-11. These slight differences in side chains are what cause the different physiological functions.
