Basic Info
Terpineol is also called tung oil or terpineol. It’s a monocyclic monoterpene-alcohol compound with the molecular formula C10H18O. The molecular mass of this compound is 154.24. It comes in three isomers, a- b- and g. A-terpineol, the most common isomer in nature, is found most often. A-terpineol has been detected in leaves, flowers and grass stems from more than 200 different plants. A-terpineol is available in three optical forms: left-handed (left-handed), right-handed (right-handed) and racemic. The essential oils of cypresses, cardamoms, star anise and orange blossoms contain right-handed terpineol. Other essential oils include lavender, melaleucas, white lemons, cinnamon leaves and nutmeg oils. Commercial terpineol, however, is produced by chemical synthesis, not by extracting terpineol from essential oils. Commercial terpineol consists mainly of a-terpineol. It is a colorless, viscous liquid that has a lilac aroma.
