Dibutyl sebacate is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid with a fruity aroma and a light grease smell. It is a plasticizer that can be used as a cold-resistant auxiliary plasticizer. Since this product is non-toxic, it is widely used in food packaging materials and synthetic edible flavors.
At present, direct esterification is mostly used in industry, that is, dibutyl sebacate is synthesized using sebacic acid and n-butanol as raw materials in the presence of sulfuric acid. The advantage of using concentrated sulfuric acid as a catalyst is high activity, but there are the following disadvantages: due to the dehydration of sulfuric acid, there are many by-products of esterification and oxidation, which makes it difficult to refine the reaction products and recover unreacted raw materials. The treatment of the reaction products must be neutralized with alkali and washed with water to remove the catalyst sulfuric acid, resulting in complex processes, product loss, severe sulfuric acid corrosion equipment and increased production costs. Therefore, people have been looking for better and less polluting catalysts to replace sulfuric acid. Such as: phosphotungstic acid, ammonium ferric sulfate, zinc sulfate hydrate and other solid acids.

Main Uses: Dibutyl sebacate is an environmentally friendly plasticizer, especially suitable for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), nitrocellulose (NC), cellulose acetate and so on.
PVC products: Used for soft PVC products (such as wire and cable sheath, medical device tube, toy, synthetic leather, etc.), with excellent flexibility and resistance to low temperature brittleness.
Transparent products: Because of its low volatility, high transparency, often used in food packaging film, transparent hose and so on.

2. Rubber industry
Synthetic rubber processing: Dibutyl sebacate is used as a cold resistant plasticizer for nitrile rubber (NBR), chloroprene rubber (CR), etc., to improve processing fluidity and low-temperature elasticity of products.
