Beta-Arbutin can also be called arbutin. This skin-whitening active ingredient combines “green”, “safety”, and “efficiency” due to its origins in natural green plants. The powder is white with a yellowish tint at room temperature. It is easily soluble with water, methanol ethanol propylene glycol and glycerol. After dissolution, there is no precipitate. It is insoluble in chloroform, ether, petroleum ether, etc. Many skin-whitening products contain it. The bearberry plant, genus Ursula of the Ericaceae Family, is where it got its name. It was later discovered in leaves of the genus Vaccinium, in the Ericaceae, family, as well as the genus Pyrus, in Rosaceae, and genus Saxifraga, in Saxifraga. It is then used as a cosmetic and drug additive.
